At the LUX in Berlin-X-Berg

First of all: I have decided to do this blog in English. There are a lot of folks I'd like to reach that don't speak German, and English is sort of common ground for my friends from different parts of the world. To all my none-english-speaking german friends out there: 'tschuldigung, aber ist es nicht eine herrliche Gelegenheit, das alte Schulenglisch ein bisschen aufzufrischen ;-) ?

Yesterday at the LUX in X-Berg I saw some smashing artists I just have to write about.
LUX on wednesday nite is thee place to go for upcoming songwriters and performers because the open-stage is just great! Doors open at 21:00, show starts 22:00 (supposed to, sometimes they're early). Entrance is 4€, free for performers that nite.
The feller who organizes the things happening on stage is Rob Longstaff. He opens the evening with his magnificent, funny and what not guitar-playing and singer-song-singing. After that there's usually a longer set of "featured artist of the evening", and then it's free for all (well, talk to Rob, if you wanna play, and he'll put you in your timeslot for your 15 Minutes of fame).

Last night was something really special. I won't describe. I'll just provide some links. Just too bloody amazing. OK, I'll give a short version: you could call Mal Webb a singer, body-percussionist, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist (mbira, trombone, trumpets, diverse stringed instruments and whatnot). Thing is, if you listen to the stuff he does you wouldn't believe that it's actually just him, performing the stuff live, just his voice, his instruments with the help of a small technical device for looping. But see for yourself, there's tons of links to youtube and stuff on his website malwebb.com.
If you get a chance to see that guy live, don't miss it!
On a couple of tunes he was accompanied by a very well played musical saw. The guys name Toni Geiling, here's his website www.tonigeiling.de.
There were a couple of more acts, but this one was really outstanding, so I'll leave it at that for now. Go and check out the place for yourself if you are in Berlin.

Stay tuned!
